In analyzing student attendance, educators across the West Shore Educational Service District believe the current rate of chronic student absenteeism in our area is unacceptably high.
The fact that chronic student absenteeism is common across the nation is not a reason for us to be complacent.
It’s time to alert and engage our students, parents, educators, community members, and caring adults in every member school district in our three-county region.
Chronic absenteeism holds our kids back. Let’s band together and take action not to let this happen.
We need your help. Together we can make a difference and reduce chronic absenteeism to boost student learning.
Improved student attendance begins with good communication between schools, parents, and caregivers. If your child is routinely missing school, let’s work together to discover the reason and create a support plan.

Chronic Absenteeism Holds Our Kids Back
If a student misses 2 days a month…they will miss 20 days a year.
They will also miss:
– 30 hours of math a year
– 60 hours of reading and writing a year
– 1 year of school over time by graduation
If a student misses 4 days a month…they will miss 40 days a year.
They will also miss:
– 60 hours of math a year
– 120 hours of reading and writing a year
– 2 years of school over time by graduation
